Homemade vanilla extract

Making homemade vanilla extract is extremely easy. You only need 2 ingredients, and the result is wonderful.

Ingredients

10 vanilla beans ( Grade B)

1 cup of vodka

Procedures:

Using a paring knife, carefully split the vanilla beans in half along the vertical lines.

Add the vanilla and vodka to the bottle of your choice. Store in the pantry, letting it infuse and age for 6-8 months before use.

NOTES:

Vanilla choices: There are 2 grades of vanilla, grade A and grade B. Grade A vanilla is used directly in the dish. The seed is scraped, and the pod is infused in the liquid to bring out the flavor. Grade B vanilla is drier and mostly used for extract, and it is also cheaper. I used grade B vanilla here because it is cheaper. You can use any grade that you want.

Vodka: You don’t have to use expensive vodka. Any vodka will work. You can also add a little bourbon to your vanilla extract. It will make vanilla a more interesting flavor.

To speed up the process, you can add store-bought vanilla extract. You can use it right away. Continue to top off the homemade extract with vodka. The longer it sits, the more flavorful it will get.
