Tteokbokki is my favorite Korean food, among many others. It consists of chewy rice cake, tender fish cake, and a spicy note from Korean fermented chilly paste. All these ingredients come together for an ultimate experience.
Ingredients:
1 pound of rice cake
1/2 pound of fish cake
1/2 carrots
1/4 cup of cabbage ( optional)
1/4 onion
2 green onions
2 tbsp of gojuchang ( Korean fermented chili paste)
2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 cloves of garlic finely minced
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp of mushroom seasoning powder (optional)
1/4 tsp of ground cayenne pepper ( optional)
Procedure:
Soak your rice cake in some cold water for 15-20 mins
Mix gojuchang, sugar, soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, mushroom seasoning, cayenne pepper, and a little water. Mix well and set it aside.
Add the rice cake and 1 cup of water to a larger frying pan over medium heat. Cook the rice cake for 3-4 minutes until it is no longer hard.
Add in the fish ball, carrots, cabbage, and sauce. Cook until vegetables become tender and the sauce is thickened.
Remove from the heat. Finish with some green onion on top and enjoy.
