Easy Apple Crumble Recipe for Fall

Fall is finally here in WA state, so I think this recipe will be perfect. Apples are quintessential for fall, and Apple Crumble is the easiest recipe that you can make. Imagine a cold fall night, warm cinnamon apples, and vanilla ice cream. What more can you ask?

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 5 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (peeled, cored, and thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch fine salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with a little butter.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the melted butter, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of flour until evenly coated. Transfer the apples to the prepared baking dish and spread them into an even layer.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold cubed butter. Use your fingertips or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour mixture until it forms coarse, pea-sized crumbs.
  4. Evenly scatter the crumble topping over the apple filling, covering the fruit completely.
  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the fruit is tender and bubbling and the oat topping is deeply golden brown.
  6. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream!
